Intersections is a short format mini-series exploring the underlying relationships between contemporary artists, their various artistic processes and the city of Montreal. As a particular intersection of cultures, attitudes and perceptions invested by the natural rhythms of the city and its politics, Montreal has become a formative ground for many emergent art forms.
By manner of constructing a constellation of short profiles and portraits of montréalaise or transplanted local artists, we propose to present the dialogue between daily city life and arts culture that expresses a unique and shifting Montreal identity. Our project will look at a representative selection of artists, present them as personalities living in the city day to day, and explore how they balance a broader conceptual objectivity apart from it in their artistic practice. Through the configuration of artists portrayed we aim to establish the contribution to a unique identity for Montreal as expressed through its artistic community.
